Established in 1969, ASIAL has grown from a small network of security companies to one that today, represents approximately 85% of the security industry in Australia.

The Association comprises enterprises from large corporate entities, to small and medium sized operations.

ASIAL promotes and fosters the highest standards of efficiency, service, equipment and ethical behaviour amongst persons, firms and corporations engaged in the Australian Security Industry. To become a member, a security company whether large or small, has to meet the highest standards of quality and service.

The Security Industry is one of Australia's fastest growing sectors creating both employment and economic growth for the nation at a rapid rate. The industry generates revenues of approximately $4.5 billion per year, and employs over 150,000 security personnel.

The industry has developed in its innovation, diversity and professionalism, often leading the way internationally. Today, it provides a wide range of security products and services designed to meet the needs of the Australian community.

The growth of the industry has partly been generated by the ongoing evolution of technology offering new products and services that are not only more effective, reliable and convenient, but also more affordable. In addition, the level of crime in the community and the random nature of crime have encouraged many consumers to take proactive steps to ensure that their assets and property is protected.

The services and products provided by the industry can be categorised into three broad areas:

Electronic
CCTV and surveillance, access control, video and audio intercom systems, integrated security and fire systems, home automation, building management systems, biometrics, alarms and alarm monitoring

Manpower
crowd control, airport security, guard services, mobile patrols, concierge duties, traffic management

Physical & Barrier Security
locksmiths, perimeter fencing, security grilles, bollards and boom gates, safes and records protection.
